James Roy Crook, 72, of Nimitz was welcomed into Heaven by his Savior on Thursday, October 24, 2024 at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley following a long illness.
Born November 27, 1951 at Hinton, he was a son of the late Hobert Jackson and Dorothy Earnestine Crook.
There is no question Roy was the most hardworking man that God ever created. He learned from an early age that with hard work much could be achieved and with his wife by his side this was accomplished. He was so very proud of the farm and log home they have that was made beautiful through much sweat, hard work and sacrifice. There was nothing he couldn’t fix or make. He never met a stranger and if you ever met Roy it was guaranteed that you wouldn’t forget him, he was truly one of a kind that would do anything to help anyone.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Smith and four brothers, Paul, Jackie, Sammy and an infant brother Johny Crook.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 49 years, Sheila Wills Crook; one daughter, Andrea Crook Black (Mike) of Nimitz; two sons, Chris Gilbert of Pence Springs and Roy Lee Crook (Kim) of Jumping Branch; seven grandchildren, Mikayla, Tristan, Noah, Cody, Saigan, Claire and Braydon; four step grandsons, Andrew, Wyatt, Wessley (Autumn) and Levi Black; two great grandchildren, Malia and Kade; two brothers, Kenny and Dallas Crook; six sisters, Tenie Bremer, Linda Ratliff, Janice Shrader, Edith Cook, Brenda Trent and Mary Wright and many nieces and nephews.
His family would like to extend a special thank you to each person that prayed, offered and gave support in all ways, to the wonderful medical staff at WVU Medicine Ruby Memorial for the highest level of care over the past 6 years and to the Bowers Hospice House of Beckley, especially Mandy during the completion of his journey.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Monday, October 28, 2024 at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Robbie Merritt officiating. Burial will follow in the Lilly-Crews Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral parlors. Pallbearers will be Tony Williams, Michael Williams, Danny Nelson, Noah Adkins, Cody Crook, Braydon Gilbert, Tristan Nelson and Jared Crook. Honorary pallbearers will be Eric Crook, Brian Bremer and Randy Shelton.
