Pastor James Edward ?Eddie? Johnson, 75, of 213 Summers St., Hinton, died Thursday, January 27, 2005 at the Summers Co. Appalachian Regional Hospital at Hinton, following a short illness.Born September 5, 1929 at Sandstone, he was the son of the late Jess and Murrel Jane Fox Johnson.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a very special uncle, Frank Johnson.Eddie had pastored churches in Summers County for the past 32 years. At the present he was serving as Pastor at the Meadow Creek Baptist Church where he had been for the past 4 years. He had touched many lives as the former pastor at The Ramp Baptist, Brooks Baptist, Laurel Creek Baptist, Chestnut Grove Baptist and Sandstone Baptist Churches. He was Chaplain at the Summers County Hospital and minister of the Summers County Council on Aging. He was a retired Journeyman Lineman and a fifty year member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and a veteran of the Korean Conflict.His amazing faith in God led him to virtue, knowledge, patience, Godliness and brotherly kindness. His love for the Lord and his faith in God and in the goodness of people was an inspiration to all that knew him. He loved his life, his wife and family and his friends. His purpose in this life was to serve the Lord, to lead others to God and to serve his fellow man. He fulfilled this every day in all that he did.He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Betty Madeline Vest Johnson; a son Mark Ward and wife Bonnie of Sandstone, a daughter, Diania Price and husband Jim of Hinton; five grandchildren, Dean Purdue of Maryland, Jennifer Stillion and husband B. J. of Ohio, Austin Persinger of Hinton, Amberlee Stover and husband Jason of Hinton and Jennifer Dickens and Husband Christian of Fairdale; three great-grandchildren, Maggie Stover of Hinton and Drew and Chloe Dickens of Fairdale; one sister, Maydell Ward of Sandstone; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel in Hinton with Pastors Benny Allen, Harry Thompson and Elwood Cales officiating. Burial will follow in the Restwood Memorial Gardens at Hinton. Friends may call at the funeral parlors from 6:00 until 9:00 P.M. Sunday. His grandsons and nephew will serve as pallbearers.
