James Lewis "Jim" Richmond

James Lewis “Jim” Richmond, 91, of Ballengee went home to be with the Lord Sunday, March 16, 2025 at the Bowers Hospice House following a long illness.

Born April 3, 1933 at Brooks he was a son of the late Charles Ballard and Mary Edna Lee Smith Richmond.

Jim worked in the maintenance department for the Summers County Board of Education before joining the West Virginia Department of Highways and retiring as a supervisor. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, farming and doing leatherwork. Jim often joked, “he was a jack of all trades and a master of none.” He loved life and spending time with his family.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Mildred Lois Jones Richmond on March 11, 2025; two sons, Larry Richmond and wife Gena and Lewis Richmond and wife Kathy; three brothers, Alton, Sam and Jennings Richmond and five sisters, Pearl Berry, Margaret Berry, Mildred Fox-Payne, Alice Richmond and Betty Lou Richmond.

Those left to cherish his memory include one daughter, Susan Steitz and husband David of FL; two sons, Greg Richmond of Ballengee and Justin Richmond of Ballengee; grandchildren, Tera Stanley and daughter Jessie, Danielle Richmond Lusk, and husband Chris, Kristen Richmond, Lakin Richmond, Gabriel Richmond, Penelope Richmond and James Justin Richmond and three sisters, Anna Berry, Ethel Roaten-Shaw, and Edith Smith.

Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 19, 2025 at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Rev. Ben M. Peyton officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:30 P.M. until time of services on Wednesday at the funeral parlors. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Hospice of Southern West Virginia, especially Lisa Woods, Jessica Brogan, Connie Smith and Ruth; Danielle Richmond Lusk and Peggy Elkins for all the love and care they provided.
