James Massie

James Layton Massie, 75, of Hinton, WV, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 23, 2004. Born May 28, 1929 in Greenbrier Co., he was the son of the late Layton and Pearl Dilley Massie. Jim had lived most of his life at Hinton. He owned and operated the J. L. Massie Insurance Agency of Hinton since the early 1960?s and also owned the J.L. Massie Insurance Agency in Lewisburg, WV. He was a member of the Rollynsburg Baptist Church at Talcott and also attended the Elk Knob Baptist Church where he was active in all church activities. Jim sang in the choir as well as being a member of the Gloryland Quartet. Outside of church, he was a very active member of the community. One of his civic contributions to Summers Co. was serving as President of the Summers County Board of Education during the 1970?s. He was an avid supporter and contributor to the Summers County Schools as well as all athletic programs. Throughout his career and life he worked very hard to build as outstanding insurance agency. Due to his hard work and effort, he won several top sales awards in the insurance field. He was once honored as the top independent agent in the United States with Allstate Insurance Companies. Jim was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved the outdoors and some of his best times were spent with his family at his hunting camp and on the family farm at Judson. He is survived by his wife, Wanda, three daughters; Donna Duncan and husband Stan of Hinton, Bonnie Dilley and husband Doug of Shady Spring and Lisa Kleintop and husband Tim of Sanford, NC, one step-daughter; Lynne Jones of Hinton two sons; James L. ?Jimmy? Massie Jr. of Hinton and Gabriel Massie at home, three grandchildren; Kristen Hodge and husband Roger of Savannah, GA, Layton-Haze Massie of Hinton and Lilley Grace Kleintop of Sanford, NC, two great-granddaughters; Madison Avery Hodge and Emmaline Katheryn Hodge of Savannah, GA. Also surviving are four brothers; Charles Massie and wife Betty and Billie Massie and wife Shirley of Lewisburg, Alton Massie and wife Kathy of Organ Cave, WV and Ronnie Massie of Orange Park, FL his Mother-in-law, Mildred Shaver and Brother-in-law, Bob Fleshman both of Hinton, several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and a special friend Jessica Williams. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 27th at 11:00 A.M. at the Rollynsburg Baptist Church at Talcott, with Pastors Dana Stalnaker and Andy Howdock officiating. Burial will follow in the Massie Family Cemetery on the Massie Farm. Friends may call at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors in Hinton from 6-9 P.M. Sunday and at the church one hour prior to services. Pallbearers will be his sons-in-law, Stan, Doug and Tim, his granddaughter?s husband, Roger Hodge and his nephews Mike and Chris Massie,close family friends, Charlie Saunders, Jim Richmond and Johnny Angotti. Honorary Pallbearers will be John McCain, Larry Walters, Arnold Johnson, Dr. Brian Richards, John Ratliff, Thomas Miser, Kenny Grimmett and Jennings Cyrus.
