James Raymond Raines, 56, of Pence Springs, died at 5:40 A.M. Tuesday January 2, 2007 at Summers County Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness. Born October 8, 1950 in Summers County, he was a son of the late Jesse and Thelma Louise Meadows Raines. James was a United States Marine Corp veteran who served in the Vietnam Conflict and attended the Pence Springs Community Church. A retired coal miner who was a member of UMWA District 29 and a loving husband, father and grandfather. Survived by his wife Dorothy Elaine Lucas Raines, two sons, Steve E. Lucas Raines and wife Betty of Princeton and Jesse E. Raines of Riverside Rest; one daughter, Crystal E. Kirk and husband Chad of Frankford; three grandchildren, Kara, Chadwick and Emily Kirk of Frankford; two sisters, Margaret Johnson of Indian Mills and Carolyn Jones of Cashmere. Friends may call from 6-8 P.M. Thursday January 4, 2007 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors. At his request his body will be cremated and services held at a later date.
