James E. Settle, 81, of Judson Road, Talcott, died 2:30 A.M. Sunday, March 29, 2009 at his home following a long illness. Born June 10, 1927 at Ronceverte, he was the son of the late Clayton L. and Luvenia A. Cox Settle. He was a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp. and later the U.S. Air Force. Jim was a member of the Carpenterâ??s Union Local 1911 and he retired as a Carpenter Superintendant. During his career he had worked at the National Observatory at Green Bank and the White House in Washington, D.C. Preceding him in death is one daughter, Jane Settle Farley in 2008, as well as Five Brothers and Two Sisters. He is survived by his wife of 60 ½ years, Helen Lilly Settle at home; two daughters, Barbara M. Reynolds of Linden, VA and Beverly H. Justice of Shelby, N.C.; one son, James R. Settle of Margate, FL; one brother, Robert L. Settle of Ft. Smith, AK; Seven Grandchildren and Twelve Great Grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Robbie Merritt officiating. Burial will follow in the Alderson Cemetery. Friends may call at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors from noon until service time. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
