James Shanks

James William â??Budâ?? Shanks, 79 of Hinton died Thursday morning February 14, 2008 at his home following a long illness. Born January 8, 1929 at Bellepoint, he was a son of the late James Paris and Kate Stella Crawford Shanks. Bud was a retired conductor and brakeman for the C&O Railroad, member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, owned and operated his own bulldozing business and worked the early part of his life in the timber business. Member of the Hinton Masonic Lodge #62 A.F. & A.M. and the Charleston Chapter of the Beni Kedem Shrine, a United State Army Veteran of World War II, past member of the Summers Co. Board of Education and had received the honor of being recognized as the Summers County Republican of the Year in 1996 and a was a former Republican Candidate for the office of Sheriff of Summers Co. Bud was preceded in death by two sisters and is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marie Pettrey Shanks of Hinton, two daughters, Susan Lawrence and her husband Richard of Charleston and Terri Kirkham and her husband Frank of Hinton; three grandsons, Brad Kirkham and his wife Melissa of Hinton, Rick Lawrence of Morgantown and Brian Kirkham of Hinton. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday, February 17, 2008 at the First Baptist Church of Hinton with Pastor Ronald Cobb officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Baptist Church Cemetery at Forest Hill. Friends may call from 6-8 P.M. on Saturday at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors and at the Church one hour prior to the service on Sunday. Buds grandsons, Brad and Brian Kirkham and Rick Lawrence, his nephewsRicky, Ronnie and Ralph Dean Pettrey and Greg Edwards will serve as pallbearers. Jim Tassos, Bill Pack, Bob Mazzella, Paul Martin, Junior Walters and Billy Joe Lilly will serve as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers donations of sympathy may be made to Hospice Care at 540 N. Jefferson St. Box 7, Suite D, Lewisburg, WV 24901. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of the Lewisburg Hospice Care for the wonderful care given to Mr. Shanks in his final days.
Viewing Information: 6-8 P.M. Saturday at the Funeral Parlors.
Funeral Information: 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the First Baptist Church.
