James Elbert Ward, 68, of True went home to be with the Lord Saturday, April 20, 2019 at his home following a long illness.
Born October 21, 1950 at Hix, he was a son of the late Noley Elbert and Goldie Irene Bennett Ward.
James was a former timberman and truck driver for Ward Logging and as a laborer for CSX Railroad Corporation. He enjoyed hunting, ginseng, dealing furs, was a true outdoorsman and a "jack of all trades".
Preceding him in death are two sisters, Freda Mae Cheeks and Drema Gail Whitt; two brothers, Roger Henry Ward and Carlos Marion Ward.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children, James D. "Jimmy" Ward and wife Joyce of White Sulphur Springs, Marsha "Marcie" Martin, Cherish Nicole Cook and companion Kevin Richmond, and Alex Kirby all of True; six grandchildren, Shayla Martin, Takota, Brycen, and Nevaeh Cook, Aziyaa and Addison Galloway; former wife and friend, Sharon Ward; his siblings, Freddy Monroe Ward of Hix, Louise Richmond of Greenville, Russell Hubert Ward of Hix, Sue Graham of Elk Knob, Michael Wayne Ward of Hix, Donald Ray Ward of Lick Creek and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday April 24, 2019 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Benny Allen officiating. Burial will follow in the Cales Cemetery on Chestnut Mountain. Visitation will be from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral parlors. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
