Jerry Douglas Gill age 60 of Elk Knob passed away Friday, April 22, 2011 after a short battle with cancer.
Born April 28, 1950 at Hinton, he was the son of the late Roy G. and Lillian M. Sears Gill.
Jerry was a skilled carpenter who had worked at the White House, FBI Academy and many local projects which included the renovation of Rivertowne in Hinton. He had dedicated his time these past 10 years to being a crew leader at the Appalachian Folk Life Center where he led groups to renovate homes for the less fortunate. He was an avid motorcyclist who enjoyed riding and maintaining Harley Davidson motorcycles. Jerry, Gretta and their two sons together completed their lifelong dream of building their home at Elk Knob. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather who had spent his life taking care of his family. His family will always remember his unconditional love. All those who knew Jerry will remember his kind and generous spirit, and willingness to lend a helping hand whenever it was needed.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 37 years, Gretta Lee Gill of Elk Knob; two sons, Jason Gill and wife Jannell Turner of Brooklyn, NY and Marcus Gill and wife Amber of Parkersburg; four grandchildren, Turner and Aaron Gill of Brooklyn, NY and Andrew and Joshua Gill of Parkersburg; three sisters, Elizabeth Cronin and husband Hank of Springfield, VA, Dale Sears and husband Doug of Elk Knob and Jo Ann Richmond and husband Jimmy of Elk Knob and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Jerry?s life will be held from 5-7 p.m. on his birthday Thursday, April 28, 2011 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel in Hinton. Please feel free to bring a photo, story or musical instrument as we celebrate his life.
