Joe Bennett

Joe Earl Bennett, 80, of Nimitz went home to be with the Lord Thursday January 21, 2021 at his home with his loving family surrounding him following a short illness.

Born January 30, 1940 at Nimitz he was the son of the late Roscoe Russell and Anel Harvey Bennett.  Joe was of the Baptist faith and had worked for 35 years for C&O Railway and CSX as a conductor until his retirement.  He enjoyed gardening, grooming his yard and spoiling his grandchildren with candy.

Preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Bennett and Finley Bennett and wife Frances; one sister, Bonnie Wykle and husband Tom and two additional brothers-in-law, Lionel Hatcher and Benny Houchins.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving and faithful wife of 56 years, Dottie Bennett of Nimitz; daughter, Bethany Hardy and husband Rex of Roanoke, VA; son, Jeffery Bennett and wife Brooke of Pipestem, WV; five grandchildren, Rachel Weiss and husband Jason of Union, Paul Turner and wife Alissa of Palmetto, FL, Jessica Dooley and husband Will of Roanoke, VA, Madison Bennett of Pipestem and Alyssa Bennett of Pipestem; six great grandchildren, Amelia Weiss, Sawyer Weiss, Abigail Turner, Silas Turner, Dreyton Dooley and Sadie Dooley; one brother, Glen Bennett and wife Flossie of Lewisburg; four sisters, Marlene Hatcher of Teays Valley, Mary Houchins of Jumping Branch, Wilma Anderson and husband Leonard of Nimitz, Iva Kay Lilly and husband Jack of Lewisburg; one sister-in-law, Patsy Bennett of Lerona and many nieces, nephews and cousins whom he loved dearly.

For the safety of the family and the community funeral services will be private with Pastor Don Hannah officiating.

Jeffrey Bennett, Paul Turner, Will Dooley, Rex Hardy, Jason Weiss and Neal Bennett will serve as pallbearers.
