Joe Junior (Lucious Clay) Walton, 59 of Chestnut Mountain near Hinton went home to be with the Lord Thursday, June 17, 2010 at Raleigh General Hospital following a long illness.
Born February 14, 1951 at Sunlight, WV he was a son of the late George Alva and Emzie Scott Walton.
He was a disabled timberman, a member of the Chestnut Mt. Church of Christ and the caretaker of the Cales Cemetery for many years. Joe loved gardening and especially sharing his harvest of crops with his community and friends. He took pride in grooming his lawn to perfection and in his spare time he loved watching westerns on television, playing horseshoes, cookouts and taking long drives in the country.
He is preceded in death by his son, Joe Edward Walton; two brothers, Justin Walton and Gene Walton; one sister, Ruth Cayton; a special father and mother-in-law, Arnold and Ocie Cales and special uncle Zane Adkins.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife and best friend of 33 years, Peggy Sue Cales Walton at home; one son, Steven Gene Walton also at home; six sisters, Mamie Defibaugh and husband Bob of Ronceverte, Mary Harvey of White Sulphur Springs, Wanda Masey and husband Randy of Kernersville, NC, Kathy Simms and husband David of Hines, WV, Nina Cales of Alderson and Betty Cales and husband Jerry of Rupert; three brothers, Robert Walton and wife Gaye of Rupert, Alan Walton and wife Joanne of Kernersville, NC and George Walton and wife Donna of Valdese, NC. Special sisters, Wanda Ward, Bonnie Rhoads, Decredia Cales, Teresa Johnson and husband Bart, Karen Kann and Patty Ward; special nieces and nephews, Heather Abbot, Samantha Mize, Kyle Messinger, Justin Johnson and Tim Ward. Numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends that were very dear to him, also survive.
Funeral services will be 2 PM Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Evangelist Paul Lane officiating. Burial will follow in the Cales Cemetery on Chestnut Mt. Friends may call at the funeral parlor from 6-8 PM Monday. Harless Cales, Bart Johnson, Justin Johnson, David Simms, Jimmy Cales and Tim Ward will serve as pallbearers.
