John Edward Lilly, 78, of 263 Main Street, Hinton, passed away at the Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA, on Saturday, March 27, 2010 after a short illness.
Born March 20, 1932 at Hinton he was a son of the late James William ?Bill? and Leona Ellison Lilly. John was a retired veteran of the United States Air Force as a Tech Sgt. with over 20 years of faithful service that included many oversea assignments. After the end of his military career, John was named Chief of Police for the Town of Gretna, VA and served in that capacity for 23 years. He will be remembered as a man of great humor and generosity.
Preceded in death by his wife, Patty Meade Lilly, two brothers, James Robert Lilly and Rev. William David Lilly.
Survived by three sisters, Imogene Grimmett and Mary Carol Humphries, both of Hinton, and Mrs. John W. ?Judi? McCoy of Grottoes, VA; two brothers, Vivian E. Lilly and Jack E. Lilly and wife Janice all of Hinton; two sisters-in-law, Maria Lilly of St. Albans and Phyliss Young Lilly of Gretna, VA and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 12:00 noon on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Rev. Grover Morris, Rev. Ernest Roebuck and Gill Roebuck officiating. Interment will follow in the Restwood Memorial Gardens near Hinton. The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. until service time on Tuesday.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
