Junior Fred Meadows, 79, of Pluto Rd., Shady Spring, formerly of Summers Co., died Saturday morning, September 6, 2008 at the Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital, with his companion Lena by his side, following a short illness. Born April 29, 1929 on Irish Mountain in Raleigh Co., he was the son of the late Fred Lewis and Bertha Manerva Bennett Meadows. Junior worked as an underground coal miner for eleven years and drove a coal truck for 35 years. He was a 35 year member of the UMWA District 17. Junior had loved singing and playing music all his life, he would play and sing bluegrass as gospel music at any opportunity. He is survived by five daughters; Kathy Jones and husband Rick, Peggy Pennington and husband Gilbert, Susie Meadows and friend Roger Massey, Shelia Richmond and husband Eddie and Sherry Meadows and Fiance` Ben Bishop, one son; Donald Meadows, eleven grandchildren; Michelle, Michael, Sonya, Scott, Scottie, Lora, G.L.(Gilbert), Roger Lewis, Samantha, Sally Ann, and Stacy, four great grandchildren; Harmony, Caleb, Katie and Connor, and two sisters; Ruby Wills and Dorothy Carr. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel in Hinton with Pastor Melvin Wills officiating. Burial will follow in the Meadows Family Cemetery on New River Road. Friends may call at the funeral parlors from 6-8 P.M. on Monday. Nephews and friends will serve as pallbearers.
