Leon Emfinger

Leon Eugene Emfinger, 86, of 1308 Terrace St. Hinton, died Monday afternoon at his home, following a long illness. Born January 1, 1918 at Rushenville Community in Elmore Co. Alabama, he was the only son of the late G. E. and Bessie Warren Emfinger. Mr. Emfinger attended Rushenville School and Elmore County High School. He received Christ as his Savior and became a member of Rushenville Baptist Church in 1935. He was inducted into the Army Air Corp in February 1942 and discharged December 1945. Following his release from the service, he was employed by the Dravo Corporation of Pittsburgh, PA, in 1946, during the construction of Bluestone Dam at Hinton and finally retired from the Russell Dam Project at Elberton, GA in January 1980 when he returned to Hinton for his retirement years.He was a 57 year member of the Hinton Masonic Lodge #62 AF & AM and was active as long as health permitted. Preceded in death by two sisters; Carlyn Wingard and Myrtice Kendrick and was the last member of his immediate family. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jane Shirey Emfinger, at home. Other survivors are nieces and nephews; Judy and Billy Parker, Jerry and Linda Ingram, Bob and Carolyn and Larry and Phyllis Deeds, Ed and Nancy, Barry and Sharon, Randy and Betty and John and Lynne Cales, Larry and Sue Shirey, Donna and Tracy Beaman, Tracy and Gerald Lovley. Several great nieces and nephews and one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Willie Jo Cales also survive. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel in Hinton with Pastors Larry Deeds and David Board officiating. Prayer will be offered by Ed Cales. Burial will follow in the Restwood Memorial Gardens at Hinton. Friends may call at the funeral parlors from noon until funeral time Wednesday. Hinton Masonic Lodge will serve as pallbearers and conduct graveside rites. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations of sympathy may be made to the Greenbrier Valley Hospice, 203 S. Jefferson St., Suite A. Lewisburg, WV 24901.
