. Leonard Bennett, 78, of Madam?s Creek, Hinton, died at 9:05 A.M. Saturday, May 14, 2005 at his home, following a brief battle with cancer. Born July 23, 1926 at Blue Jay, WV, he was the son of the late Clark and Ida Mae Smith Bennett. He was a retired coalminer and a member of UMWA District 29. Preceded in death by his wife, Thelma L. Vest Bennett, July 6, 2003, two brothers, Jacob Bennett and an infant brother and one sister, Versie Bennett. Survived by three sons: Danny Bennett and his wife Martha of Shady Springs, Billy Bennett and his wife Dalene of Bunker Hill, WV, Frankie Bennett and his wife Vickie of Marie; three daughters: Shirley Wills and her husband Rev. Melvin Wills of White Oak, Brenda Ward and her husband Doug (Luke) of Daniels, and Mary Miller and her husband Lacy of Cool Ridge, ten grandchildren, and five great grandchildren, three brothers, Clifford Bennett of Shady Spring, Paul Bennett of Beaver and Richard Bennett of Shady Spring, and one sister, Ruby Bennett of Beaver. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel in Hinton with Pastors Elmo Alderman and Tommy Mounts officiating. Burial will follow in the Vest Family Cemetery on Madam?s Creek. Friends may call at the funeral parlors from 6-9 P.M. Tuesday. His grandsons, Curtis Wills, Michael Wills, Carl Bennett, Scott Bennett, Nick Bennett, Danny Smitterman and Roy Caldwell will serve as pallbearers. Junior Young, Norman Farley and Mark Meador will serve as honorary pallbearers.
