Leonard E. Morris, 87, of Hinton went home to be with the Lord March 1, 2010 at his home following a long illness.
Born August 25, 1922 at Covington, VA he was a son of the late Malcomb A. and Myrtle Rose Morris. A World War II Veteran of the United States Army serving with ?H? Co 3rd BN 501 PIR of the 101st Airborne ?Screaming Eagles?.
Sgt. Morris served at Normandy during D-Day the Ardennes during operation ?Market Garden? and at Bastogne, the Rhineland and Central Europe. During his service he received six citations including The Bronze Star Medal.
Leonard was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hinton and was very active in church functions while health permitted, avid outdoorsman he enjoyed hunting, fishing, yard work and spending time with his family, but most of all he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.
Preceded in death by five brothers, Howard, Ray, Virgil, Gerald and Garnet Morris.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 63 years, Frances H. Morris at home; three daughters, Deborah Ward and the late Wayne Ward of Hinton, Rebecca Richmond and husband Samuel of Hinton and Mary Sue Wallin and husband Johnnie of Chesterfield, VA; six grandchildren, Edie Ann Bennett and husband Randy of Hinton, Richie Ward and wife Cari of Spencer, Jason Richmond of Hinton, Justin Richmond and wife Kristin of Hinton, Seth Wallin of Chesterfield, VA and Maria Wallin and fiancé Matthew Martell of Chesterfield, VA; three great grandchildren, Hannah Rae Cooper of Hinton, William and Trevor Ward of Spencer; one sister, Gladys Bennett of Covington, VA; special caregiver, Vicky Whitten of Hinton and numerous nieces and nephews that were dear to him.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 6, 2010 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Rev. Dr. Barbara Romfo and Rev. Donna Coffman officiating. Burial will follow in the Hokes Chapel Cemetery near Covington, VA. Friends may call from 6-8 P.M. on Friday at the funeral parlors.
Justin and Jason Richmond, Richie Ward, Seth Wallin, Andy, Gerald and Jody Morris and Chuckey Kimberlan will serve as pallbearers.
Samuel Richmond, Johnnie Wallin, Tom Clinebell, Randy Bennett, Johnsey Cabiniss, Terry Coffman and Johnny Wallace will serve as honorary pallbearers.
