Lorene Garten Hedrick Cales

 Lorene Garten Hedrick Cales, 90, of Pence Springs went home to be with the Lord, Friday, August 23, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family following a long illness.

 Born August 9, 1934, in Pence Springs, WV and was a daughter of the late Otie Carl and Stella Anne Miller Garten. 

 Lorene graduated Salutatorian from Talcott High School in 1952 and worked as postmaster for the US postal service, having filled in at several different locations for 46 years. Her great love was music, having played the piano for 70 years and served as pianist for the Pence Springs Community Church for many years.

 Besides her parents she is preceded in death by five brothers, Jennings “Woofy”, Garland L., Kenneth, Ronald and Alvin Garten; three sisters, Adena Maddy, Opal Wilson, and Clorice Harris.

 Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Robert “Bob” Cales; four children, Dale Hedrick and wife Gale, Steve Hedrick and wife Diana, Debbie Fretschel and husband Brian, and Jeff Cales and wife Linda; grandchildren, Valerie, Nathan, Kassi, Tara, Andrew, Justin, Mason, Violet; nine great grandchildren; two sisters in law, Myrtle and Betty Garten, and several nieces and nephews. 

 Funeral services will be 12:00 P.M. Monday at the Pence Springs Community Church with Pastors Roger Persinger and Robbie Merritt officiating. Burial will follow in the Haven of Rest Cemetery at Pence Springs. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until time of services Monday at the church. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family would like to express a special thank you to the wonderful care they received from the staff of Hospice of Southern West Virginia.
