Following a short illness, Loretta (Rita) Lilly Harvey, age 86, of Nimitz, passed peacefully on July 6, 2015, at the Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston, West Virginia, where she spent her last days being cared for with love and dignity.
Born July 9, 1928, in Summers County, she was the daughter and last surviving child of Caesar C. and Georgia Ann Ellison Lilly.
Mrs. Harvey was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, cooking, and canning. She was also an accomplished seamstress. She made clothes for all of her children, including baby clothes, prom dresses, wedding dresses, and even winter coats. She attended the Grace Baptist Church at Nimitz where she enjoyed seeing her friends and neighbors.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years Arvel R. Harvey; an infant daughter Donna Rae Harvey; eight brothers, Boone, Woodrow, Carlisle, Tom, Julius, Stewart, Jim Bob, and Rassie; and four sisters, Irene Lilly, Chloe Lilly Shuck, Thressie Lilly Amick, and Geneva Lilly Bolen.
Left to cherish her memories are her children, Phillip Harvey of Nimitz, Phyllis Harvey of Nimitz, Doug Harvey of Bainbridge, Georgia, Regina Harvey Adkins and husband Ray of Teays Valley, and Tom Harvey of Nimitz; four grandchildren, Cynde, Aaron, Roman, and Dakota; four great-granddaughters, Kaiya, Kyndall, Joselyn, and Clara; Sandra Harvey of Madams Creek; a number of nieces and nephews; and many friends and neighbors.
A graveside service and burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 9 at the Lilly-Crews Cemetery at Nimitz, with Pastor Bill Ballengee officiating.
Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy may be made to Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Curtis Price Way, Charleston, West Virginia 25311.
