Lowell Thomas Russell, 74, of Hinton fondly known as Jimmy by family and friends, died Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Summers Nursing and Rehab Center following a long illness.
Born December 4, 1938 in Raleigh Co. he was the son of the late Catherine Richmond and his stepfather the late Basil Richmond. Jimmy was an avid fisherman and hunter. He marked many milestones in his life by writing poetry such as ?Memories of Freezeland Mt. School? and ?Getting My GED?. Lowell was a former resident of Cleveland, Ohio where he was employed by the Chevrolet Plant and spent time as a long haul trucker.
Preceded in death by one daughter, Deborah Ann Russell and one sister, Sarah Richmond and his first wife, Ann Russell.
Survived by his wife, Mildred Russell; four sons, Dallas, James, Douglas and Thomas; one daughter, Barbara; six brothers, Ivan, Jerry, Omer, Mannie, Rex and Douglas Richmond; four sisters, Georgia Southern, Janice Meadows, Linda Richardson and Rebecca Richmond, several grandchildren and great grandchildren; former wife Lynn Russell and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Donnie Russell officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery on Freezeland Mountain. Friends may call from 6-8 pm Tuesday at the funeral parlors.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
