Lucy Geneva Canterbury, 100, of Marie ran into the arms of her Heavenly Father on August 19, 2014 following a long illness. Born May 15, 1914 in Bakewell, TN she was the 14th child of the late James Dolphin and Nancy Elmira Shipley Smith. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Preceded in death by her husband, J.H. Canterbury, a daughter, Carol Virginia Roark, a granddaughter, Theresa Diane Bailey and two grandsons, Bryan Canterberry and Tony Parmalee.
Survivors include three sons, J.H. Canterberry Jr. and wife Georgia of Crab Orchard, James C. Canterbury and wife Jo of Jumping Branch and John C. Canterbury and wife Mary of Coal City, four daughters, Rosalie Madonna and husband Danny of Kennett Square, PA, Sylvia Stevenson of Tacoma, WA, Marian Adams and husband Vern of Orondo, WA and Nancy Whitlock and husband Billy of Marie and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Friday August 22, 2014 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with the Rev. Sam Groves and Rev. Linda Payton officiating. She will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Beckley following the service. Friends may call from 10:00 AM until time of service on Friday.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Activities Department of the Summers Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, P.O. Box 1240, Hinton, WV 25951.
