Mabel Carnes Dunn, 88, of Rockport, Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus, Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at the Rockport Coastal Care Center.
Mabel was born January 27, 1925 in Pineville, Kentucky to John Riley and Etta Carnes. She graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in chemistry and worked as a chemist at DuPont Sabine Riverworks in Orange, TX after her first husband, Joe Hutchinson, passed away in April 1956. She married Donald Dunn, originally of Marie, West Virginia, in 1960 and they were married 48 years until he passed in November 2008.
Mabel was a resident of Groves, TX for 55 years, where she was a member of the First United Methodist Church and served with the United Board of Missions. She was a devoted wife and mother and a gracious hostess. She enjoyed summers in Marie with Don as well as visiting relatives in Kentucky. In her spare time she liked to study the Bible, read, sew, play bridge and golf, and attend concerts.
Survivors include son, John Hutchinson and wife Linda of Seaford, VA; daughters Clare Rudder and husband Randy of Mt. Juliet, TN, Dona Dawkins and husband Keith of Rockport, TX; nine grand-children, Christien Murawski, Hope Hutchinson, Abigail Rudder, Emily Dawkins, Sarah Dawkins, Jeremy Dawkins, Danielle Dawkins, Suzanna Dawkins, and Joshua Dawkins; and great-grandson Kiernan Murawski.
A celebration of life service will be held at the New Hope United Methodist Church in Marie, WV at 11:00 am, Saturday, July 13, 2013 with visitation at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in the Forest Hill United Methodist Cemetery in Forest Hill, WV.
