Maggie Nichole Hellems, 15, of Hinton passed peacefully in the arms of her devoted and loving family on November 9, 2017 following a long and very courageous battle with cerebral palsy.
Born March 20, 2002 at Beckley she is the daughter of Kent Hellems of Hinton and Danny and Marty Mann of Hinton.
Maggie was a member of Bellepoint Baptist Church and an eighth grade student at Summers Middle School where she was crowned 2017 Homecoming Queen by her fellow students. She was a devoted WVU Mountaineer and Summers County Bobcat fan who enjoyed watching movies and listening to music. While Maggie's life was brief she touched the lives of an entire community and was especially loved by her classmates.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Jack L. "Buzz" Hellems; maternal great grandmother, Othella VanNatter and loving nephew, Landen Wayde.
Besides her parents those left to cherish her memory include a special and loving mother and caregiver, Carolyn Johnson and her husband David and daughter Caryne; grandparents, Glenda Hellems of Hinton and Clarence and Alice Poe of Gilbert; great grandfather, Clarence VanNatter of Gilbert; David and Judy Mann of Hinton; two sisters, Megan Havens and husband Kody of Ballard and Chelsea Mann of Raleigh, NC; one brother, Bradley Chambers and Kayla Hatfield of Hinton; nephews, Paysen and Brayden Havens and Kacetyn Chambers; nieces, Addison, Aubree and Arianna Chambers; aunts and uncles, Elizabeth A. Hellems of Waynesburg, PA, Janie Sayre and husband Tim of Williamstown, Jack K. Hellems and wife Connie of Hinton, Kimberly Dotson and husband Dusty of Delbarton, Keith Poe and wife Stephanie of Gilbert, Jeff Poe and wife Ginny of Pella, IA, Glen Poe and wife Heather of Grandview, Steven Poe and wife Veronica of Chapmanville and David Mann and wife Riley of Hinton and seventeen loving cousins.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Sunday, November 12, 2017 at Bellepoint Baptist Church with Pastors Robbie Merritt and Gary Trout officiating. Burial will follow in the Restwood Memorial Gardens near Hinton. Friends may call from 6:00 - 9:00 P.M. Saturday at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlor.
In lieu of flowers donations of sympathy may be made to the Summers County Special Education Department or Hospice of Southern West Virginia.
