Martha A. Yancey, 100, of Madam?s Creek, Hinton, died Friday, March 18, 2005 at the Summers Co. Continuous Care Center at Hilldale, following a long illness. Born April 21, 1904 at Bakewell, TN, she was the daughter of the late James Dolphin and Nancy Myra Shipley Smith and had lived most of her life in Summers Co. She was a homemaker and a member of the Martha Chapel United Methodist Church on Madam?s Creek. Preceded in death by her husband, Oscar B. Yancey and two sons, Herbert and Harold Yancey and one granddaughter, Martha Sue Yancey. Survived by seven daughters, Helen McEvoy of Corte Madera, CA, Vera Johnson of Hilldale, Wilma Surber and husband Francis of Harrisonburg, VA, Lola Madge Yancey of Hilldale, Elizabeth ?Betty? Schroeder and special friend, Frank Grinstead of Hinton, Janet Lilly and husband Damon of Pipestem and Nancy Britt of Eagle Rock, VA, two sisters, Lucy Canterbury of Marie and Cecile Angell of Jumping Branch, seventeen grandchildren, several great and great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel in Hinton with Pastors Pat Mick and Sam Groves officiating. Burial will follow in the Restwood Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral parlors from 6-8 P.M. Sunday. Her grandsons and great grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
