Mary O'Connor

Mary Frances O'Connor of Dover, DE, formerly of Hinton, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2018 at her home following a long illness.
Mary was an only child, born in Hinton, West Virginia on January 2, 1940 to the late Fred and Pauline Murrell O'Connor. Mary graduated from Hinton High School in 1957 as the Valedictorian of her class and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Science at Marshall University in Huntington, W.Va. and later went on to earn a Master's Degree. After teaching science in Alderson, West Virginia, she moved to Dover Delaware and taught Science and specifically Chemistry in the Caesar Rodney School for 30 years.
In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Mary was Chair of the Science Department at Caesar Rodney High School, assisted with various activities at the school, work on the state standards for chemistry and supported the Science Olympiad. When she retired, she was involved with the Delaware Personnel Association and participated in activities at the Modern Maturity Center.
Mary was passionate and philanthropic about many causes, especially those related to animals. She always had a number of cats that provided a special friendship and that she treated with royalty. She supported the Friends Animal Society of Kanab, Utah and the Kent County SPCA of Camden, Delaware.
Mary overcame several adverse situations in her life as a cancer survivor and living with diabetes. She provided support for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure of Dallas, Texas, the American Diabetes Association of Alexandria Virginia and many other causes.
Mary is remembered as a special friend and neighbor.
Other than her parents Mary was preceded in death by David Williams and James Frederick Williams of Johnstown, Ohio.
Those left to cherish her memory include, Arthur and Peggy Williams of Covington, Virginia, and their family: Douglas and Mary Williams of Surrey, Va, Andrew and Crystal Williams of Blue Ridge, Va. and Theresa Williams of Covington, Va., Marilyn Murrell of Circleville, Ohio, Doreen Cook of Claremont, Florida and her three daughters Lynn Jones of Leesburg, Florida, Sharon Pahl of Wintersprings FL, and Sheila McCaffrey of Mineola Florida, Sue Williams, Sherri Wagner and husband Jim all of Johnstown, OH, Freddie Williams of Hinton and Andy Williams and wife Arpie of Asheville,OH.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Monday, February 19, 2018 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Patricia Worles officiating. Friends may call from noon until time of services on Monday at the funeral parlors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the: Hinton First United Methodist Church, 312 Ballengee St., Hinton, West Virginia, 25951 or to a favorite charity.
