Mattie Richmond

Mattie Jane Ward Richmond, of Hinton, passed into the loving hands of God, Sunday, December 22, 2013, at home with her family, at the beautiful age of 82.

Mattie was the seventh child of eleven given to the late Felisha Arvela Berry Ward and Matthew Ward of Sandstone.

Those waiting to welcome her home are her husband of 60 years, Homer Ellison Richmond; a son, Jeddy Ellison Richmond; a grandson, Gary Nelson Richmond; and a son-in-law, George A. Sharp.

Our mother loved the beautiful sunsets on Chestnut Mountain, watching the wildlife on her farm, watching her flower and vegetable gardens grow, and being a loving mother and grandmother.

She loved God and now departs this life, with words of wisdom. -2 Peter 1:19

Those left to cherish her memories are three daughters, Shirley Mae Sharp of Pikeville, KY, Judy Faye Marcoyiannakis and husband Orestis of Richmond, VA, and Joyce Kay Richmond of Sandstone; three sons, Eddie Nelson of Hinton, Danny Wilson of Hinton, and Gary Wayne Richmond and wife Karen of Hinton; two sisters, Felisha Mae Hamm of Ohio, and Gladys Flichum of VA.; two brothers, Lloyd Ward of Sandstone, and Jimmy Ward and wife Sue of Pipestem; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 11 A.M. Friday, December 27, 2013, at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Benny Allen officiating. Burial will follow in the Bragg Cemetery at Hix. Friends may call from 6-8 P.M. Thursday, December 26, 2013, at the funeral parlors. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
