Myrtle Parker, 95, born May 4, 1918 in Summers County, was welcomed into the arms of her Heavenly Father on July 23, 2013. She was the eldest of twelve children of the late Earnest and Lottie Whitlock.
Myrtle was the devoted wife of Oswald Parker, deceased. They enjoyed two daughters, Carol Jeffries of Fayetteville and Drema Taylor of El Paso TX.
She was a charter member of the Community Christian Church of Hinton, where she served as treasurer. Myrtle worked as a nurse at the Hinton Hospital until it closed and completed her career at the Summers County Hospital. She provided compassionate and tireless care to her entire family during various illnesses.
Myrtle loved farming and gardening, sharing stories of the olden days with many generations of her family and teaching the youngsters to make biscuits and gravy. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, and reading.
Preceding her in death include brothers; Danny Whitlock (infant), Ira Lee ?Brud? Whitlock, Albert Whitlock and Charles Whitlock. Sisters; Madeline Cooper, Evelyn Meadows, Janice Weikle and Irene Shrewsbury. In addition to her daughters, left to treasure her memory are grandchildren; Bo Jeffries, Frank Taylor, Matt Jeffries, Mark Jeffries, and Jena Petry. Great grandchildren Eric Jeffries, Joshua Taylor, Ashley Lunde, Logan & Azlyn Petry Jesse & Jacob Jeffries, Garret & Colton Jeffries, Kelsey & Noah Jeffries. Great great granddaughters, Delanie & Makaylah. She is also survived by siblings Billy Whitlock, Peggy Ladd and Betty Dowdy.
Visitation will be from 1-3 PM Friday, July 26, 2013 with services at 3:00 PM at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Rev. Danny Goins officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pisgah Church Cemetery.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
