Nellie Mae Blackburn,77, of Hinton went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at Summers County Appalachian Regional Hospital following a sudden illness.
Born on February 21, 1935 at Hinton, she was a daughter of the late Emory Meadows and Dorothy Mae Meadows Causley.
Nellie attended Hinton Gospel Tabernacle as long as her health permitted. She was a former cook at Pipestem State Park and the Hinton Hot Dog Stand, cared for the elderly and was a homemaker. She enjoyed singing, sewing, reading her bible and spending time with friends and family.
Preceded in death by her husband George E. Blackburn, Sr.; a daughter Barbara Ann Richmond; one brother, Charles Romanello; one sister, Anna Mae Grimmett; eight grandchildren; one daughter in law, Paula Blackburn; and a friend Charles Ratliff.
Survived by her children; Virginia ?Ginger? Mansfield and Husband Richard of Hinton, Charles ?Eddie? Ratliff and wife Sue of Hinton, Larry Blackburn and wife Betty of Rocksboro, NC, Debbie Cox of Hinton, Jennie Hedrick of Charlotte, NC, Billy Blackburn and Teresa Blackburn both of Hinton; Lisa Blackburn of Rupert, Georgia Gaye Blackburn of Shady Spring, George Blackburn Jr. of Pearisburg, VA., Nancy J. Mann and husband Andre of Talcott, Vickie Martin and husband Jack of Crab Orchard, Kathy Blackburn of Beckley, Dorsey Blackburn of Hinton, and Sebastian Tatum Logston a grandchild whom lived with Nellie at her home. Numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Two brothers, Jimmy Romanello of Mercer County and Johnny Romanello and wife Helen of Kentucky; three sisters, Tootie Harris and husband Daniel, Ella Jean Pauley and husband Mark, and Margaret Frye of Maryland.
Funeral services will be at 2 P.M. Saturday, September 17, 2011 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Rev. Ray Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Upland Cemetery near Hinton. Friends may call at the funeral parlors from 6-8 P.M. Friday.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
