Norma Gladys Garten, 88, of Talcott went home to be with the Lord at 8:45 A.M. Saturday, July 31, 2010 at her home, following a long illness.
She was born October 17, 1921 on Judson Mountain and was a daughter of the late John and Sarah Bennett Sears.
Norma was a member of the Rollynsburg Baptist Church as long as her health permitted. She was a homemaker and loved spending time with her family, reading her bible, embroidering and gardening. Her children and grandchildren were the light of her life and there was nothing she enjoyed more than bringing a smile to their faces.
Preceding her in death include her husband of 36 years, Paul Garten; one son, Chubby Garten; one daughter, Betty Garten Boone and was the last surviving member of fourteen brothers and sisters.
Those left to cherish her memory include three daughters; Paula Miller and husband Melvin of Ballard, Janie Briers and husband Terry of Talcott and Brenda Garten of Hinton; one son, Bernard Garten and wife Shirley of Alderson; Nine Grandchildren and Seventeen Great Grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Dana Stalnaker officiating. Burial will follow in the Restwood Memorial Gardens near Hinton. Friends may call at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors from 6-8 PM Monday. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
