Pastor Roy Burton Carter

            Pastor Roy Burton Carter, 84, of Hinton is now absent from the body and present with the Lord. (II Corinthians 5:8)

            Born September 8, 1939 at Covington, VA he was the son of the late Roy Lewis and Reba Stone Carter.  A veteran of the United States Army, employee of the CSX Railway where he retired as a district maintenance electrician, police officer with Grovesport, OH Police Dept., longtime member of the Hinton Fire Dept.  where he served as chaplain and fire fighter, chaplain with the Hospice of Southern WV, and served on the board of the Hinton Veterans Museum.  Roy was an ordained minister who received his doctorate in Church Planting from the Servant Bible Institute, and he was currently pastoring Pipestem Southern Baptist Church.  He enjoyed piloting aircraft and being a ham radio operator. He loved all those he knew, and pastoring Pipestem Southern Baptist Church was the joy of his life.

            He is preceded in death by his sister, Doris Ann Craghead and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

            Those left to cherish his memory include his loving and faithful wife of 63 years, Beverley Ann Showalter Carter of Hinton; one daughter, Beverley Kaye Blankenship of Concord, NC; one son, Roy Lewis Carter and wife Jana of Pleasant Garden, NC; two grandchildren, Jordan Nicole Blankenship, Blake Joshua Carter, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

            Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm Monday, December 18, 2023, at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Roy Lewis Carter officiating.  Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until the time of services on Monday at the funeral parlors.  Per Roy’s wishes after the services his body will be cremated.
