Peggy Harrah 91, of Hinton died of natural causes Thursday, November 25, 2010 in the Villages at Greystone following a short illness.
Born October 23, 1919 in Leicester, England she was the daughter of the late William Henry Blackwell and Nellie Reesby Blackwell. Peggy came to the United States aboard the Queen Mary arriving on March 1, 1946. She became a citizen of the United States on January 16, 1956 and lived most of her married life in Hinton. A former employee of the First National Bank of Hinton and the National Bank of Summers until her retirement. For many years she was an active member of Ascension Episcopal Church, but attended the First Presbyterian Church later, as long as her health permitted. Together with her husband Charles they were avid square dancers. They travelled extensively throughout Europe and the United States and were active supporters of many local activities.
Preceded in death by her husband Charles D. Harrah in 1989, two brothers, Brian and Alan Blackwell.
Survived by her sister, Kathleen Pailing and husband Hugh of Leicester, England, sister-in-law, Tilly Blackwell of Leicester, England, special nephew, Craig Blackwell of Chipping Camden, England, special niece, Ethel Jean Meador and husband Wendell of Grandview Road, her God Daughter, Janine Adkins Gupton and husband Lee of Fredericksburg, VA as well as many nephews and nieces in England and America.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, December 4, 2010 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Barbara Romfo officiating. Burial will follow at a later date.
