Reverend Elmo Ray Alderman Sr., 96, went to be with the Lord on Monday June 17, 2019 at The Oak Hill Place in Oak Hill, WV.
He was born May 22, 1923 in White Sulphur Springs to Wesley Oscar Alderman and Lillian Keys Alderman.
After graduating from White Sulphur Springs High School, Elmo enlisted in the United States Navy and was soon sent off to World War II. Upon returning after thirty-one months of deployment, Elmo married Maxine Lilly on August 20, 1946. Elmo was employed at Kroger as the head meat cutter until he retired after 32 years. He also faithfully served as a full-time pastor for the Jumping Branch Tabernacle for 61 years. Additionally, Elmo was Chaplin of Summers County Hospital for many years and ministered to the State Women's Prison of Pence Springs for over eighteen years.
Elmo is preceded in death by his wife Maxine Lilly Alderman.
He was blessed by his children, Ray Alderman and Terri Bird, Dalene and husband Tom Coffman, Karen and husband Kent Poff; grandchildren Tara and husband Bill White, Joel and wife Sara Coffman, Sara and husband Blake Kytle, Joanna and husband Christopher Rogar, Jonathan and wife Ashley Poff, Tina and husband Robert Willett, and Katie Poff; eight great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and his only living sibling Phyllis Gust.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday June 21, 2019 at the Jumping Branch Tabernacle with Reverend David Gallimore officiating. Burial will follow in the Restwood Memorial Gardens near Hinton. Visitation will be Thursday from 6-9 P.M. at the Jumping Branch Tabernacle. There will be no visitation Friday at the church. Serving as pallbearers will be Jonathan Poff, Blake Kytle, Christopher Rogar, Joel Coffman, Keith Chambers and Jim Bragg.
