Richard D. Bostic, loving husband, father and grandfather, 94, passed away November 9, 2015, at home.
Born November 18, 1920, he was the son of William Otho and Pauline Bostic of Talcott, WV., one of nine children.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death is his wife of 74 years, Betty Jane; his brothers: Ralph, Howard, Jack, James and Bernard and sister, Florence. Surviving siblings are Ruby of New Castle, Pa, Mary Carol of Marie, WV, and Thomas of Pikeville, KY.
He married his high-school sweetheart, Betty Jane and had two sons, Richard, Jr. of Lexington, KY (Mary) and Patrick (Biddy) of South Charleston, WV. He is also survived by his grandsons John of Lexington, KY (granddaughters Rachael and Kaitlyn); Jason of Murfeesboro, TN (granddaughter Cadance); Bobby of South Charleston, WV (granddaughter Emily and grandson Sam).
Dick served his country during WWII as a Motor Machinist in the Navy. When honorably discharged, he came back to WV and worked on the Bluestone Dam, the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad, and then worked for Union Carbide at the Alloy and South Charleston plants until he retired, after 37 years, as an R&D supervisor. He and Betty then retired to the farm in Ballengee.
Dick enjoyed woodworking and growing his gardens on the farm. He was a member and was active in fundraising efforts for the Oak Grove Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Ballengee Farm Club. He so enjoyed sitting on the porch with Betty. He was a good friend to many and will be missed by his family and friends.
The family thanks friends and family members who visited and assisted during his illness. They also greatly appreciate the staff of WV Hospice/Greenbrier Chapter who have given loving care to Dick and the family throughout his illness.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 14, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Sam Groves officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery at Ballengee. Friends may call the funeral parlors from noon until time of services Saturday at the funeral parlors. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
