Robert R. Hudson Sr., 83 of True, died 9:20 P.M. Saturday, June 7, 2008 at his home following a long illness. He was born September 11, 1924 at Beckley and was a son of the late Robert H. and Esthal McGraw Hudson of Piney View, WV. A U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII having served as Petty Officer Third Class and gunner on the Merchant Marine Ships and later the Liberty Ships during the American, Asiatic Pacific, European African and Middle Eastern Campaigns; a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and attended Beckley College and Bluefield College, Bluefield Va. He was a Field Engineer Zone Manager for AT&T, formerly NCR Corp with 38 years of service having worked in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Maryland and retiring from the Beckley, WV office; A member of the Hinton Masonic Lodge # 62 AF & AM and had served as Past Master of Hinton and Bluefield; and a faithful member, as long as his health permitted, of the James Chapel United Methodist Church at True. He was preceded in death by one brother, James M. Hudson and one sister Lillian White. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Joyce Tickle Hudson; one son, Robert R. Hudson Jr.; one grandson, Robert R. (Robbie) Hudson III; one granddaughter, Keri LeAnn Hudson and the mother of his grandchildren, Susie Hudson all of True; one great granddaughter Makayla Hudson of Bluefield; two brothers, Rev. Charles Hudson and wife Jane of Piney View and Lawrence Hudson and wife Janice of Barnesville, GA.; two sisters, Virginia Lodmell of Frankfort, KY and Evelyn Elliot and husband Paul of Oak Hill; four sisters-in-law, Patricia Hudson of Leesburg, Va., Ellen Neely and husband Mason of True, Romie Tickle Epperly of True, and Elaine Tickle Cutlip and husband Jim of Scottown, OH; and one brother-in-law, Daniel Boyer of Hinton. Many nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 10, 2008 at the James Chapel United Methodist Church at True with Pastors Tommy Mounts and Charles Hudson officiating. Burial will follow in the Spangler Cemetery at True. Friends may call at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors from 6-8 P.M. Monday and at the church one hour prior to services. The Hinton Masonic Lodge will serve as pallbearers and conduct graveside rites. The family will receive flowers, however, donations of sympathy be made to the Hospice of Southern WV, P.O.B. 1472, Beckley, WV 25802 or the James Chapel United Methodist Church, True, WV.
