Robert Edward "Buckwheat" or "Bob" Rakes, 84, of Tug Creek, Hinton went home to be with the Lord Friday, July 12, 2019 at Summers County Appalachian Regional Healthcare.
Born March 10, 1935 at Hinton he was a son of the late William Edward "Bill" and Edna Dick Rakes.
Robert was of the Baptist faith. He was a disabled construction worker and carpenter. Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing, hunting ginseng and farming.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Carol Rakes; one daughter in law, Linda Rakes; five sisters, Ethel Muncy, Mildred Byrns, Marie Wiseman, Ruth Blanchard and Virginia Childress and two brothers, Thomas and Carl Lee Rakes.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 56 years, Barbara Ballengee Rakes at home; three sons, Ronald Rakes of Tug Creek, James Rakes of OH and Robert Rakes Jr. of Huntington; two daughters, Rebecca Rakes of VA and Jennifer Yancey of Tug Creek; three grandchildren, T.J., Christopher and Michael and one sister, Mary Worley and husband William of Beckley.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, July 19, 2019 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlor Chapel with Pastor Don Hannah officiating. Burial will follow in Greenbrier Burial Park near Hinton. Friends may call from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. Thursday. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
