Roger G. Adkins, 68, of Pipestem passed away Sunday, August 12, 2012 in the Roanoke Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
Born July 9, 1944 at Hinton he was a son of the late Luther G. and Dorothy S. Fox Adkins.
He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army National Guard for 28 years. Roger was a retired lineman for Richardson and Wayland Electrical Contractors and was a member of the Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He enjoyed fishing, camping and the great outdoors.
Preceding him in death is his sister, Nancy Lee Adkins.
Those left to cherish his memory include two sons, David D. Adkins and wife Alice M. of Hinton and Roger Scott Adkins and wife Becky of Eccles; four grandchildren, Sara Beth Mattis, Samantha D. Adkins, Amanda and Jordan Mancari; one great grandson, Trace Anthony Allman; one brother, William H. Cales of Chicago, IL and his companion Jennifer Williams of Pipestem.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Friday, August 17, 2012 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel. Burial will follow in the Adkins-Johnson Cemetery at Brooks. Friends may call at the funeral parlors from 6-8 P.M. on Thursday. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
