Roger Ayers

December 27, 1945 — May 30, 2009

Roger Dale Ayers, 63 of Lockbridge, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, May 30, 2009 at the VA Medical Center in Beckley after a long illness.

Born December 27, 1945 at Hinton he was a son of the late Charles W. Ayers and Iva Bragg Ayers Anderson. Roger attended schools in Summers County before joining the United State Army. He served twenty nine years with three tours of duty during the Vietnam War, five years in Germany, one year each in Korea and Panama plus various bases here in the United States. He was a member of the Meadow Bridge Missionary Baptist Church which he attended until health prevented him from doing so, he was also a member of the Meadow Bridge Fire Dept.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Otaka Mae Ayers and one brother, Charles Howard Ayers.

Survived by his wife Shin Ayers; one son, R.D. Ayers of FL; one daughter, Jennifer Ayers of Beckley and four grandchildren, two brothers, Jerry E. Ayers and wife Mary of Durant, OK and D.W. Ayers and wife Brenda of Eagle Rock, VA; three sisters, Peggy Williams and husband Arthur of Covington, VA, Lana Oyler and husband Edward of Covington, VA and Pamela Moneymaker and husband Frank of Nimitz.

Upon his wishes he was cremated and ashes will be interred at a later date.
