Roger Hartwell

Roger Lee Hartwell, 75, of Hinton went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at Raleigh General Hospital following a long illness.

Born December 18, 1946 at Zion Mtn. he was a son of the late S.K. Kenton and Dora Irene Hodge Hartwell.

Roger was a proud US Army Veteran having served in the Vietnam War. He was a skilled carpenter and mason formerly employed by James Gunter Construction. Roger enjoyed woodworking, playing guitar, restoring furniture and spending time with family and friends. He was always the life of the party. Roger always had a story to tell and a song to sing. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.

Besides his parents, waiting to welcome Roger home were his siblings, Jim, David, Tom, Dan, Bill, Hilda, Lois, Ruth and one grandchild, Nikki Lee Hartwell.

He will be missed by his wife of 52 years, Bernice Hartwell; two sons, David Hartwell and companion Jackie Yancey and Rodney Hartwell and wife Felisha; one grandchild, Emily “Weston” Hartwell; four brothers, Silas K. “Bud” Hartwell, Ralph Hartwell (Judy), Gary Hartwell (Judy) and Ronnie Hartwell (Susan); one sister, Betty Lamb (Donzie); many nieces, nephews, brother and sister in laws and one special niece, Rhonda Taylor (Anthony).

Funeral services will be 12:00 P.M. Monday, April 18, 2022 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Sonny Angell officiating. Burial will follow in the Upland Cemetery near Hinton. Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. until time of services on Monday at the funeral parlors. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Raleigh General Hospital for the care he received while he was there.
