Roger Lee Gilbert, age 65, of Peterstown, W.V. went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 27, 2021 in Princeton following a long, courageous fight with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. His loving wife Rebecca was by his side.
Roger was born on March 20, 1956, to Taulbee and Eva Payor Gilbert in Christiansburg, Va.
Roger’s love for his family and for the Lord truly defined him. He dedicated his later years to worshipping and serving God at Calvary Baptist Church in Ballard, W.V. His greatest joy and pride were found in his children and grandchildren. Roger fought hard for many years to live and to be there for his family and to watch them grow. He loved spending time on the water boating, in the woods camping and going on trips with his family. Roger was a gentle, kind soul with a courageous heart. He enjoyed playing the guitar and teaching his children to play “Fox on the Run.” His soul would light up as he sang old tunes, always with a smile on his face. His passion truly laid in hymns, his blissful way of worshipping the Lord.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Rebecca Gilbert; siblings, Bobby Gilbert and Pat Main; son, Justin Gilbert (Samantha); daughters, Kari Crosier (Derek), Amanda Gilbert, Tess Gilbert and Alexandria Gilbert, Leslie Cyrus (Scotty Frazier) and Tabitha “Taffy” Cyrus. His radiant spirit will continue to shine through his grandchildren, Annalyn Gilbert, Caden Gilbert, Colton Gilbert, Carson Long, Cooper Long, Legacy Crosier, Braxton Adkins (Bailey Fortner), Cooper Frazier and one expected grandchild; one great-grandchild, Brooklyn Adkins and one expected great grandchild.
He was proceeded in death by siblings, Jimmy Gilbert, Ernie Gilbert, Billy Gilbert, Peggy Songer and Mary Miller and in-laws Gary Main, Alma Gilbert, and Barbara Gilbert.
Roger’s family would like to personally thank Pastor Derrick Leslie along with the rest of Calvary Baptist Church for the kindness and support they have continuously shown. Their love truly made a difference and never failed to lift his spirits.
Funeral services will be 12:00 P.M. Thursday, September 2, 2021 at the Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Derrick Leslie officiating. Burial will follow in the Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery. Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. until time of services at the church on Thursday. Men of the church will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 10347 Ballard-Red Sulphur Pkwy, Ballard, WV 24918.
For the safety of the family and community precautionary measures will be observed.
