Ronald J. Bennett, 87, of Mount View Road, Jumping Branch, died Saturday, January 19, 2013 after a long illness.
Born February 28, 1925 at Jumping Branch, he was the son of the late Oliver S. and Caldonia ?Callie? Vest Bennett. Ronald was a United States Army Veteran having served his country during the Korean War, a member of the UMWA, and a retired coal miner. While his health permitted, Ronald and his dog Sam enjoyed farming and raising cattle. This kind and generous man was affectionately called ?The Gentleman Farmer? by his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Opal Gross, Eula Stanley, Wanda Kirk and Ola McCutcheon and five brothers, Roy, Ray, Reo, Rexel and Roscoe Bennett.
He is survived by one sister, Wilda McComas and husband Everett of Marmet, one sister-in-law, Pauline Vest of Daniels and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at the Mary Jane Church, Streeter Road with Pastor Ernest Calfee officiating. Burial will follow in the Anderson-Vest Cemetery at Mount View. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
