Syble A. O'Bryan Richmond, 81, of Clayton went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at the Summers County Hospital following a long illness.
Born November 19, 1932 at Hix she was a daughter of the late Robert L. and Mazie O. Wheeler O'Bryan.
Syble was a true matriarch: 1) A woman who rules a family. 2) A woman who activities are centered around. 3) A highly respected woman who is a mother. 4) A woman who is head of family and a powerful mother figure. She was a homemaker and a member of the Tempa Baptist Church. Syble enjoyed singing and listening to gospel music, reading her Bible and spending time with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Arley Richmond; two sons, Dean and Dennis Richmond; two sisters, Carrie O. Cook and Nancy Sears and one brother, Howard E. O'Bryan.
She is survived by four sons, Anthony Richmond of Clayton and ex-wife Patty of Alderson, Roger Richmond and wife Rhonda of Riverside Rest, Gerald "Purk" Richmond of Clayton and Ervin Richmond and wife Laura of Clayton; three daughters, Sue Walls and husband Daniel of Coal Mt., Connie Harper and husband Bernard of Beckley, Sandy Richmond and husband Mark of Hix; one brother, Edward L. "Pete" O'Bryan and wife Brenda of Marion, OH; one special nephew, Jon Cook and wife Becky of Beckley; eighteen grandchildren, Heather Duff and husband Eric of Alderson, Rick Ward of TN, Sonya Thomas and husband Darren of Hanover, Traci Mullens and husband Jonathan of Gilbert, SC, Danny Walls and companion Ashley Little of Skin Fork, Missy Leslie and husband Derrick of Hinton, Scott Harper and wife Tara of Beckley, T. Sgt. Justin Harper and wife Amber of Plato, MO, Jennifer Hannah and husband Rick of White Sulphur Springs, Eric Richmond and wife Christina of Roanoke, Jeffrey Richmond and wife Anita of Clayton, Chris Richmond of Hinton, Jess Richmond and wife Jodi of True, Dennis Richmond Jr. of Freezeland, Amber Richmond and companion Charlie Blankenship of Nimitz, Denise Holt and husband James of Lashmeet, Lisa Richmond and companion Chris Coleman of Tempa and Steven Richmond and companion Samantha of Alderson; 38 great grandchildren and one special great grandchild expected April 2015; one sister in law, Cora Lee O'Bryan of Columbus, OH; one daughter in law, Brenda Richmond of Hinton and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, August 17, 2014 at Tempa Baptist Church with Pastors Derrick Leslie and Bobby Reed officiating. Burial will follow in the Williams Richmond Cemetery at Tempa. Friends may call from 6:00 P.M.-9:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral parlors.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
