Thomas Osborne

Thomas Malcolm Osborne, 83, of Beckley, formerly of Hinton, passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at the VA Medical Center of Beckley following a long illness.

Born February 18, 1927 in Hinton, he was the son of the late John L. Osborne and Maggie Ball Huston Osborne. Tom served in the United States Army from 1944-1946, he then returned to Hinton to graduate in 1947 from Hinton High School where he played football and was a member of the Hall of Fame for the Hinton Bobcats. He worked with C&P Telephone Co. for 31 years, retiring in 1984. Then he continued working after his retirement for Frank Dearing Buick-Subaru, and Lewis Chevrolet for short periods of time, Tom coached North Beckley Midget Football for 22 years and was an active member of the Telephone Pioneers, a member of First United Methodist Church of Beckley, Elks Lodge and the Moose Lodge.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Wiseman and Wilma Meadows and two brothers, Warren Osborne and John L. Osborne Jr.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sarah Ritter Osborne, his two sons, Michael Davis Osborne and wife Susan of Jumping Branch and Jeffrey Ritter Osborne and wife Cheryl of Beckley, his daughter, Anna Michelle Osborne Durham of Hinton, his six grandchildren, Lauren Osborne Crook and husband Jared, Emily Osborne, Jessica Osborne, Brent Osborne, Morgan Durham and Taylor Durham, two sisters, Mrs. Virginia Amick and Mrs. Betty Sims both of Beckley, one brother, Mr. Charles W. Osborne of Hinton and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Thursday, September 23, 2010 at the Bluestone Baptist Church, Jumping Branch with Dr. Robert Stoddard officiating. Burial will follow in Restwood Memorial Gardens near Hinton. Friends may call from 6-9 P.M. on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the Church.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations of sympathy be made to the VA Medical Center of Beckley 200 Veterans Ave., Beckley, WV 25801.
