Thomas “Tom” F. Briers Sr., 83, of Hinton went home to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday March 19, 2020 at his home surrounded by his loving family following a short illness.
Born October 10, 1936 at Hinton he was a son of the late Willie and Mildred Cheetham Briers.
Tom was a member and Trustee of First Baptist Church of Hinton. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. Tom had worked in construction, as a carpenter and retired as a conductor from CSX Transportation. He was a former Summers County Sheriff, a member of the Summers County ARH Auxiliary and an election worker for the Republican Party. Tom built his own KR2 experimental airplane and enjoyed spending time with family and friends and being involved in local community affairs.
He is preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Briers and David Briers.
Those left to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy include his wife, Martha Bigony Briers; children, Thomas F. Briers Jr. and wife Susan, Tamara Briers Holterman and husband Tom, Tina Briers Shanklin and husband Gary, Matthew C. Briers and wife Karen, Charles G. Steward and John Charlton Briers and wife Kristen; eight grandchildren, Jenna Briers Owen, Thomas J. Briers, Melissa Sue Offenhauser, Benjamin Goff, Kyle Shanklin, Jessica Briers, Keegan Briers and Callen Briers; three great grandchildren and one sister, Joan Briers Monroe.
For the safety of the family and community, services will be private at this time with Pastors Butch Honaker and Gary Trout officiating. There will be a public memorial service at a later date. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Southern West Virginia for the excellent care given to Tom.
