Vera Iris Ellison, 94, of Nimitz, WV, went home to be with the Lord Monday, October 10, 2011, at Summers County Appalachian Regional Hospital following a short illness.
Vera was born July 14, 1917 at Ellison, WV. She was the daughter of the late William "Mack" and Wessie V. Lilly Ellison.
Vera was the oldest surviving member of the Nimitz Missionary Baptist Church and faithfully attended as long as her health permitted. She spent her life as a caregiver to her parents and grandparents.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Arlie E. Ellison and her sister, Mary Elizabeth "Libby" Ellison Lilly and nephew, A. Matthew Ellison, MD.
Vera is survived by her brother, Benny Paul Ellison and wife Regina and sister-in-law, Jenny Lee Ellison all of Nimitz; nieces, Becky Sue Sparks, Beth Ellen Trout, Lisa Bragg, Lois Harvey whom was her primary caregiver and Sherry Foster; nephews, Roger Lilly, Mark Ellison and Jonathan Ellison and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
Service will be held at Nimitz Missionary Baptist Church in Nimitz at 2:00 PM Thursday, October 13, 2011 with Pastor Don Hannah officiating. Burial will follow at the Lilly-Crews Cemetery, Sand Knob Road, Nimitz. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to services.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
