Vernice Naomi Graham Abshire, 68, of Talcott went home to be with the Lord Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness.
Born August 4, 1946 at Hinton she was a daughter of the late Cecil H. and Anna E. Richmond Graham.
Vernice was a member of the Rollynsburg Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for preschoolers as long as her health permitted. She was a former employee of the Summers County Board of Education, having served as a secretary at Talcott High School and a sales clerk for G.C. Murphy Co.
Vernice loved serving the Lord and she loved her church. She enjoyed painting, writing and competing at the WV State Fair in cooking and crafts and spending time with family and friends.
Vernice was preceded in death by one sister, Dreama Gaye Graham and one brother, George Graham.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 50 years, Denver "Dickie" Abshire at home; one daughter, Lisa Stalnaker of Talcott; one granddaughter, Rebecca Stalnaker of Talcott; one grandson, Daniel Stalnaker of Talcott; two sisters, Josephine Hatcher of Dunbar and Ruth Russell of Hinton; two brothers, Cecil Graham Jr. and wife Patty of Lerona and Neil D. Graham of St. Albans and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Dana Stalnaker officiating. Burial will follow in the Upland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral parlors from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Tuesday.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Arrangements are by the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors of Hinton.
