Virgil Franklin Meadows, 65, of Fredericktown, PA died peacefully at 5:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 29, 2009, surrounded by his family in the Mon Valley Hospital.

Born August 7, 1943 at Wayside, he was a son of Madeline Wood Meadows of Wayside and the late Dorsie Meadows. Mr. Meadows had worked as a mechanic at both Blackburn Chevrolet in Hinton and at John Sisson Motors in Washington, PA and was also employed as a continuous miner operator for 20 years at the Clyde Mine in Fredericktown, PA. An avid outdoorsman, he loved fishing in the river down by the Pump Station and had hunted together with his brother Bob since childhood. Virgil was a people person and enjoyed associating with his friends. A member of the Owls Club in Fredericktown, a past member of the Hancock-McCune-Horn American Legion Post #705 in Fredericktown and the UMWA Local #688.

Besides his father he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Summer Skye Pollock.

Besides his mother Virgil is survived by his wife Leona Meadows, three daughters, Flora Meadows and companion Mark Pollock, Mary Pirt and husband John and Amanda Meadows and fiancée Jacob Bobbs; six step children, James ?Bubby?, Brian, Clarence, Loretta, Willis, George and Leona ?Choo-Choo?; seven grandchildren, Johnny, Hope, Erinn, Winter, Jacob, Luke and Bryce; sixteen step grandchildren, Jimmy Jo, John, Brittany, Ryan, Nicole, Kerri, Amy, Clarence III, Christian, Gavin, Gene David, George, Anthony, Joey, Amber and Kenny; six great grandchildren; three brothers, Melvin Wood and David Meadows both of Wayside and Bobbie Meadows and wife Jean of Carmichaels, PA; two sisters, Barbara Young and husband Omar of Gap Mills and Bonnie Galford and husband Dennis of Wayside and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday, August 3, 2009 at the War Ridge Free Will Baptist Church near Wayside with Pastors Wes Galford and Roger Brammer officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery at Ballengee. Friends may call at the Church from Noon until service time on Monday.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
