Virgil L. Phillips, 76, of Lynch Station, VA formerly of Hinton died Thursday, March 4, 2010 at Carriage Hill Retirement Home following a long illness.
Born Jan 18, 1934 at Pipestem he was a son of the late Barrett and Lottie Wills Phillips. Virgil was employed by the Summers County Board of Education until his retirement in 2001, he enjoyed hunting and tinkering with his cars and trucks and was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Rose Phillips; one daughter, Rhonda Gail Phillips, four sisters, Lottie Yancey, Lakie Gill, Nannie Graham and Mary Phillips.
Survived by one son, Donald L. Phillips of Lynch Station, VA; three grandchildren, Kinsey Phillips of Lynchburg, VA, Megan Phillips of Lynchburg, VA and Zachary Phillips of Lynch Station, VA; one great grandson, Blake Robins of Lynchburg, VA; one step-great granddaughter, Daisy Robins of Lynchburg, VA; three brothers, Hobert Phillips and wife Sue of Pipestem, John Phillips of NC and Bill Phillips and wife Mary of Pipestem; two sisters, Gladys Lemon of Hinton and Sylvia Gray of Whitesville and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 12 Noon Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Pastor Robbie Merritt officiating. Burial will follow in the Cook Cemetery at Pipestem. Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. until service time on Tuesday.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
