Wanda Lee Lilly Neely, 96, of Pipestem, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, April 12, 2012 at the Glenwood Healthcare Retirement Village following a long illness.
Born May 31, 1915 at Warford, WV, she was a daughter of the late Bud Homer and Jeanetta Pearl Farley Lilly.
Wanda was a homemaker and a member of the Greenbrier Primitive Baptist Church of Pipestem Creek where she served as clerk for 42 years. She worked as a columnist for Crumps Bottom News and was an election official for many years attending to the polls at election time. Wanda was very serious about her tasks but had a great sense of humor. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, John Delbert Neely, in 1988; one son, Roger Lee Neely, in 1985; an infant granddaughter; five brothers, Nathan, Denver, James, Raymond and Dow Lilly and one sister, Demie Cobern and an infant sister.
Those left to cherish her memory include two daughters, Lula Belle Green and husband Don of Bluefield, VA and Barbara Carol Steele and husband John of Knoxville, TN; one son, Billy Denzil Neely and wife Joyce of Plant City, FL; special daughter-in-law, Sandra B. Neely of Lewisburg; special unofficially adopted son, Earl Lyons Jr. and wife Darlene of Charlottesville, VA; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and two sister-in-laws, Sylvia Lilly of Cool Ridge and Jessie Neely of Pipestem as well as a host of family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM Monday, April 16, 2012 at the Pipestem Southern Baptist Church with Pastors Gene Lilly, Roy Carter and Jack Lawrence officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenbrier Memorial Gardens at Lewisburg. Friends may call from 6:00PM- 9:00PM Sunday, April 15, 2012 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel.
Serving as pallbearers will be Roman Lilly, Dale Lilly, Gary Neely, Leon Lilly, Jerry Jewell, Chuck Meador and Dean Cobern.
In lieu of flowers donations of sympathy may be made to the Roger Neely Scholarship Fund at First Citizens Bank of Lewisburg.
