Willie Elizabeth "Betty" Virts

Willie Elizabeth “Betty” Virts, 91, of Daniels, formerly of Hinton, went home to be with the Lord Friday, September 6, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family.

 Born November 24, 1932 at Beaver she was a daughter of James and Bertha Wallace Wood. 

 Betty was a graduate of Shady Spring High School and later worked as a phone operator in Beckley and a supervisor/switchboard operator for Blue Cross Blue Shield in Washington DC. She was an active member of River Valley Baptist Church near Hinton. Betty was well known for her craftwork, she especially loved making angels, and generously gave most of it away to friends and relatives. 

 Preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Virts; a stepson, Jeff Virts; a brother, James Earl Wood and a sister, Glenna Nida.

 Those left to cherish her memory include her two daughters, Connie Hellems and Monica Blankenship; a sister and caregiver for 6 years, Gail Richmond; a brother, Thomas Wood; a step daughter, Glenda Virts; grandchildren, Sennet and Gabrielle Hobbs; three step grandsons, Brandon, Kevin and Devon Virts and one step granddaughter, Kelly Sheehan.

 Graveside service and burial will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, September 9, 2024 at the Mt. View Cemetery in Cool Ridge with Pastor Steve Gibson officiating. Friends are asked to meet at the cemetery from 10:30 A.M. until time of services on Monday.
