Zane Baden Adkins, 77, Chestnut Mountain died 12:45 P.M. Monday, October 12, 2009 at Summers Co. ARH following a long illness.
Born June 14, 1932 in Summers County he was a son of the late James Thomas and Elsie Ellen Adkins. An avid hunter and outdoorsman he loved working on small engines and listening to bluegrass music, retired from Pipestem State Park where he worked at the golf course, past caretaker at the Cales Cemetery with 40 years of service and a member of the Shockley Hill Church of Christ.
Preceded in death by one brother, James Arnold Adkins and one sister, Ocie Mae Cales.
Survived by one daughter, Betty Fortner and husband Ward of Oak Hill; one son, Mitchell Adkins of Oak Hill; three grandchildren; one sister, Sally Vernice Ward and husband Silas of Hix and several of his nieces and nephews whom he helped to rear and the following remained close to him and were instrumental in his life and care, Wilma Adkins of Hix, Decredia Cales of Chestnut Mt, Teresa Johnson and husband Bart of Daniels, Patty Ward of Chestnut Mt, Wanda Ward of Chestnut Mt, Justin Johnson of Daniels, Timothy Ward of Chestnut Mt. and Steven Walton of Knob Knoster, MO.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday, October 16, 2009 at the Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel with Evangelist Fred Seavers officiating. Burial will follow in the Cales Cemetery at Chestnut Mt. Friends may call from 6-8 P.M. on Thursday at the Funeral Parlors.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
